ITALIANO

ENGLISH

Pomonte belonged to the Counts of Antignano. (The county of Antignano, a castle located in the hills of Bevagna, included several possessions that ranged between Bevagna and Gualdo Cattaneo.

In 1305 the representatives of the castle of Pomonte were summoned "ad parlamentum" in the cathedral of Foligno to end hostilities against the rector Deoticlezio de Loiano, placed at the head of the duchy of Spoleto.

In 1318 the castle rose against the Guelphs refusing to pay tribute and defend the church with arms, proclaiming himself a follower of Count Frederick I of Montefeltro who was rampaging in the Umbrian territory.

In 1322 the castle was subjected and made tributary of Todi. In the immediate vicinity of Pomonte stands the ancient fortress built by Albornoz, now reduced to ruins. Under the fortress is clearly visible and in excellent conservation status a fortified building erected around 1415 by Gregory XII.

In 1421, Pomonte passed under the vicariate of the Trinci with Conrad XV; in 1451 it was given in fief to the Crispolti of Bettona who kept the property until 1658, year in which he returned to the Holy See.

In 1943 the palace was chosen by the Germans as a lodging for the command and the following year it was the object of the action of the partisan group that removed all the material requisitioned by the military from the other side.

Today the structure rises majestically above a hill, surrounded by a rich vegetation; a quadrilateral plan, has at the corners small towers controscarpate height equal to half of the palace.
